| Balloon Safari |
The adventure begins just before dawn. Although it’s still dark, there’s a bustle of activity around the camp/lodge as the balloon pilots and crew begin to inflate their towering yet graceful craft. Flames from the balloon burners light up the forest as the first pink tongues of sunlight flickers across the skies. The balloon fills, then rises – quickly you jump into the basket – and you’re off for a game viewing adventure with an entirely different perspective.
The things that amaze most first-time balloonist is the absolute stillness and silence as you float above the plains, the forest and the rivers in the Mara. The sounds below drift clearly upwards: a Lion’s roar, Elephant crashing through the bush, Baboons perched in the tips of the trees startled to see something above them. After an hour or so in the air your balloon safari finishes with a flourish – a champagne breakfast in the bush, cooked on the balloon’s burners.
