"I know a well-planned itinerary when I see one. Ours was a well-planned trip! The safari was such a wonderful blend of cultural experiences and wildlife exposure, it's difficult to pick the most memorable moment."

Nairobi
Arrive in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. Follow in the footsteps of Teddy Roosevelt, Denis Finch-Hatton, William Holden and other intrepid adventurers to Nairobi. The city continues as the stepping-off point for African safaris, just as it was a century ago when it was a mere supply station and camp for the railway builders. Rendezvous with your Shades of Africa safari driver/guide and discover the Great Rift Valley. He will stop for a photo opportunity of this spectacular gash in the earth. Then it’s on to one of the Rift Valley’s fresh water lakes. Lake Naivasha is a pearl in the bosom of the Rift. Enjoy a boat ride around the lake where you may encounter square-jawed, snorting hippos. It’s just a short distance to Lake Nakuru National Park, home of the pink flamingos made famous in the film Out of Africa. A game drive in this small park will enable you to see both black and white rhinos, as well as many other animals.
