"I would like to thank Jerry (tour organiser) and my safari driver, James for making my Kenyan safari a fantastic one and full of African experience. James is an expect! He knows the animals and how to find them and where. He knows their tracks on the ground as well as the birds. He is a courteous driver guide and very helpful. Always on time and has a sharp eye for game and birds and other residents in the parks. Thanks again to the whole os Shades of Africa team for making my trip so wonderful!! "

Nairobi is the undisputed mecca for adventure travelers, zoologists and leisure tourists. This afternoon provides a chance to explore Nairobi with a visit to the National Museum and Snake Park.

DAY 3
Nairobi - Masai Mara
The wildlife portion of your safari begins today. Drive to Masa Mara Game Reserve, widely considered the finest game sanctuary in all of Kenya. This vast rolling plain
beneath the Mara escarpment is home to the annual wildebeest migration (July/September).

At all times, the Mara hosts an exceptional density of animals. Theplains are full of wildebeest, zebra, impala, gazelle, giraffe, topi, and buffalo. Lions arecommon and speedy cheetahs numerous. Your expert guide/driver will also help you discover other species, including bat-eared fox, hyena, leopard and jackal. Black rhinoare a little shy (they’ve been hunted almost to extinction for their horn) but may be seen in the Mara. Hippos are abundant in the Mara River, as are mammoth crocs which prey on wildebeest and zebra as they cross the river in search of new grass.

DAY 4
Masai Mara
An early morning game drive reveals hundreds of bird species in the reserve,
including the kori bustard, secretary bird, beautiful lilac-breasted roller and the not-so-handsome lappet-faced vulture. The large orange-buff Pel’s fishing owl is a
common sight along the river, but rare elsewhere. For a bird’s eye view of the sweeping plains, join an optional hot-air balloon safari, ending with a romantic champagne breakfast in the bush. Or learn about the customs and culture of the regal Masai during an optional visit to a nearby village. Your evening game drive will end just as the sun slips beneath the horizon. There’s nothing like an African sunset!

DAY 5
Masai Mara / Lake Nakuru
After breakfast at Masai Mara, travel to Lake Nakuru, well known for its splendid birdlife. Lake Nakuru is part of the shallow lakes formed on the floor of the Rift Valley.

Here you’ll find a tapestry of spindly legs and pink feathers. The park’s huge concentration of flamingos literally turns the lake rim pink. Abundant fish in the lake also attract pelicans, herons, cormorants and fish eagles. Keep your checklist ready because there are over 400 bird species. Today’s game drives will also reveal waterbuck, zebra, monkeys, impala, eland, giraffe, lion and hippo. The lodge offers optional horseback riding.

You’ll see lions, cheetahs and hyena.

The towering Mount Kilimanjaro frames the plains, woodlands and swamps of Amboseli. The park is home to the Big Five - elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard. Enjoy an afternoon game drive with an expert game tracker/driver. You are guaranteed a window seat each day in your private safari vehicle.
