USA/Canada-Johannesburg-Rosebank
International flight to Johannesburg. You’ll be escorted by your Shades of Africa representative to your hotel in Rosebank.
Windhoek-Sossusvlei
From Johannesburg, fly to Windhoek, Namibia’s capital. Connect with a flight
to the Namib Desert, and the dunes at Sossusvlei. Every animal here is specially adapted to the desert environment, conserving water as efficiently as camels. Your home for two days is a desert oasis, the private Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp, atop a small mountain. The camp has only nine thatched guest units, each superbly appointed with its own plunge pool and en-suite bathroom. For a unique perspective, admire the beauty of the Namib Desert on an optional balloon safari.
Swakopmund/Damaraland
Fly over the desert to charming Swakopmund, from where you'll take a boat trip from Walvis Bay Harbor. Don’t be surprised if you have dolphins and seals for companions on this trip. Fly to the scenic Damaraland, where each tent in the camp has facilities en-suite and its own verandah.
Etosha-Ongava
At Etosha National Park, you land in the crown jewel of Namibia’s nature preserves. Stay at the private Ongava Game Reserve, where night game drives and nature walks are available. Elephant, cheetah, lion and a variety of antelope abound, as well as both black and white rhino. Take the full-day game drive to Ongava and Etosha, dominated by the big cats, giraffe, zebra and numerous bird species.
Windhoek-Johannesburg
Fly to Windhoek. Board your flight to Johannesburg where your tour guide will transfer you to the Elephant Sanctuary, where you can interact with the semi-habituated animals. Discover the unique personalities of these intelligent giants as you feed and stroll with them. Then transfer to your peaceful and secluded hotel.
Johannesburg
After breakfast, immerse yourself in modern South African history beginning with a guided tour of Soweto. Visit the Hector Peterson Memorial, Regina Mundi Church and then visit with locals. A highlight of the day is the visit to Nelson Mandela’s house, followed by a traditional Shebeen Lunch. Tour the acclaimed Apartheid Museum, then go shopping at the famous Sandton Complex. Return to the hotel to relax by the pool.
