"I would like to thank Jerry (tour organiser) and my safari driver, James for making my Kenyan safari a fantastic one and full of African experience. James is an expect! He knows the animals and how to find them and where. He knows their tracks on the ground as well as the birds. He is a courteous driver guide and very helpful. Always on time and has a sharp eye for game and birds and other residents in the parks. Thanks again to the whole os Shades of Africa team for making my trip so wonderful!! "

Kilimanjaro Trek Marangu Route

The easiest and most popular route to the summit, Marangu is classified as a moderate trek rather
than a climb. It is suitable for those adventurers
who are not particularly experienced in the mountains. Accommodation is in mountain huts.

Departing from USA and connecting Via London.
DAY 2
Arrive Kilimanjaro International Airport in the evening. You will be met with the Shades of Africa Tour Guide OR Airport representative and be transferred to the Mountian Inn for dinner and overnight.

Mountian Inn (Bed and Breakfast)
DAY 3
After the breakfast at the Mountain Inn, you will be briefed about Mount Kilimanjaro and equipment check. Your Shades of Africa driver / guide will drive you to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (5,900 feet). Expert mountain guides and porters join your group for today’s easy first-day ascent of three to four hours walking through rainforest.

Overnight at Mandara Hut (9,000 feet)

DAY 4
Leave the forest and cross moorland filled with high heather. Today consists of about five to six hours walking.

Overnight at Horombo Hut (12,500 feet)

DAY 5
Ascend past the last water landmark, walking on the lunar landscape saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks. The road gets rougher and the mountain steeper. You’ve clocked another six hours walking this day.

Overnight at Kibo Hut (15, 500 feet)

DAY 6
Rise early to reach the summit. Walk up steep and heavy scree to reach Gillman’s Point (18,640 feet) and see the sun rise over Africa. In just two more hours you will reach Uhuru Peak (19,340 feet) the highest point on the continent. Then it’s straight down back to Horombo. A total of about 12 hours walking today.

Horombo Hut (12,500 feet)
